Helicopter Operations

Prepare Helicopter Arrival

  1. Confirm Risk Assessment and review Contingency Plans

  2. Prepare Area

    1. Remove / secure loose objects
    2. Wind cone
    3. Lighting
      1. Area lighting
      2. Navigation lights during night
    4. Secure ventilation systems and hatch openings
    5. Establish access control
    6. Ensure emergency routes clear
  3. Firefighting equipment

Prepare Firefighting Equipment
  1. Start fire pumps and verify pressure
  2. Position fire hoses
    1. Near/clear of operating area
  3. Ready foam equipment and monitors
  4. Prepare dry powder extinguishers

 

  1. Prepare Standard Equipment
Note: All equipment must be readily accessible during operations

    2. Crowbar
    3. Wire cutters
  2. Signaling equipment
    1. Red emergency signal/torch
    2. Night marshalling batons
  3. First aid kit
  4. Radio for bridge communication
  5. Personal protective equipment
    1. High-visibility tabards
    2. Helmets
    3. Hook handler safety gear
      1. Rubber gloves
      2. Rubber-soled shoes
  1. Prepare MOB boat, if needed

  2. Prepare crews

    1. Deck crew
    2. Fire fighting/ Emergency response
    3. Rescue party
  3. Perform toolbox talk

Helicopter Arrival

Note: Always use helmet with chin strap
  1. ESTABLISH COMMUNICATION WITH HELICOPTER
    1. Confirm ETA
    2. Confirm vessel speed and heading
    3. Agree on board location for helicopter approach
    4. Confirm deck conditions (heavy spray/seas)
  2. ESTABLISH COMMUNICATION AND CONFIRM SUPPORTING TEAMS STANDBY
    1. OOW, Bridge clearance
    2. MOB Boat as agreed
    3. Fire fighting
    4. ECR
  3. Confirm fuel configuration
  4. Confirm anemometer in relative mode
  5. Suspend all cargo operations
